Regius Professor of Engineering (Cambridge)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Regius Professor of Engineering is a Regius Professorship for engineering sciences founded in 2011 by Elisabeth II . The reason for the foundation was the end of her husband Philip's 34-year tenure as Chancellor of the University of Cambridge . In addition to this Regius Professorship, there are three other professorships for engineering

History of the professorship

The purpose of the foundation is to offer exceptional scientists the opportunity to develop the Department of Engineering into a world-leading research center in which global challenges are addressed. This includes sustainable energy solutions that build cities of the future, counter risks and promote innovation. The choice of the first professor fell on David MacKay, as he had already earned a reputation in the field of sustainable energy management.
