George Wilson MD, FRSE 1855 Wilson's title was still Regius Professor of Technology. The chair was actually abolished when he died, but the subject was so important that the manufacturer David Baxter (1793–1872) raised a foundation for an engineering chair. Wilson is therefore not counted as a Regius Professor in the count and the count begins with Henry Charles Fleeming Jenkin.
Henry Charles Fleeming Jenkin FRS 1868 1885 Trained at the University of Genoa , Jenkins worked in Scotland with William Thomson , later Baron Kelvin, and was able to acquire considerable wealth due to his expertise in undersea cables for telegraphy. In 1868 he took over the Regius Professorship in Edinburgh. In office he wrote a recognized textbook on electricity and magnetism, published in 1873. Jenkins is the first professor who came into office with the current title, i.e. as Regius Professor of Engineering.
George Frederick Armstrong 1885 1900 Armstrong was considered an expert on railways. Like his predecessor, however, he also made a great effort to public health, which was reflected, for example, in the training of medical professionals in sanitation and water management-related topics. and Under his leadership, the Fulton Engineering Laboratories were opened, where students could receive practical training.
Thomas Hudson Beare Esq., B.Sc., FRSE, M.Inst.CE, M.Inst.ME, DL 1901 1940 Beare, originally from Australia, took over the professorship in 1901. Beare was also dean of the faculty for 21 years, and the chair developed favorably. Under "Huddy's" leadership, the faculty grew from a small unit housed in the basement to over 100 people in the Kings building, to "one of the best-planned and best-equipped engineering schools in the kingdom".
vacant 1940 1946
Ronald Nathan Arnold Esq., D.Sc., Ph.D., MS, MIMech.E. 1946 Dec 30, 1963 Arnold divided the previously unified faculty into subject-specific areas for mechanical engineering , electrical engineering and civil engineering .
Leslie Gordon Jaeger Esq., BA, MA, Ph.D., AMICE, AMIStruc.E., MEIC 1965 1968 Jaeger left the Regius Professorship shortly after taking office in favor of a professorship at McGill University .
James Lawrence King Esq., BA, MA, Ph.D., FIMA 1968 1983
Joseph Anthony McGeough B.Sc., Ph.D., DSc., CEng., FIMechE, FiProdE, MIM 1983 McGeaugh came from the University of Aberdeen and was supposed to expand the portfolio of the university to include electrochemical manufacturing processes, such as spark erosion , electrochemical removal and the like.
Peter Mitchell Grant OBE, FREng, FRSE, FIEEE 2008 Sep 30 2009 The electrical engineer Grant took over the Regius professorship and thus the management of the 26-strong professors' committee of the newly merged engineering schools.

Jason Meredith Reese FREng, FRSE, FIMechE, FInstP 2013 March 8, 2019 After training as a physicist at Imperial College London and at the University of Oxford , Reese taught at various universities including the Technical University of Berlin , the University of Cambridge and other well-known universities until he took over the position of Regius Professor in Edinburgh in 2013. His contributions deal heavily with fluid technology . Reese passed away unexpectedly on March 8, 2019 at the age of 51.
