history
The name Rego Park goes back to the construction company Re al Go od Construction Company, which Rego Park founded in the 1920s. Until then there was only farmland there. English and Dutch farmers settled the area in 1653 and grew rye, oats and various vegetables. At the end of the 19th century, the original settlers were replaced by Chinese farmers who leased the land and grew their own crops, which they sold at markets in Chinatown .
The Rego Park district
The streets in Rego Park are semicircular and named with melodious, aristocratic names. The roughly triangular area of Rego Park is bounded by three large boulevards: Queens, Woodhaven and Yellowstone Boulevard. In the residential area, single-family houses and apartment houses alternate. The large Queens Center shopping center, which opened in 1972 and was renovated and expanded in 2005, is located between Woodhaven and Queens Boulevard.
