The stone remains of the Rehburg windmill (2017)

The Rehburg Windmill is a windmill built in 1821 that was ruined by a fire in 1905 . Your building remains are in the district Rehburg of the municipality Rehburg-Loccum in Lower Saxony .

The ruins of the windmill stand on the hill of the now heavily forested Mühlenberg. In the past, the mill with an attached steam engine belonged to the Rehburg domain and was a landmark in the area that was visible from afar. The archway through which wagons drove under the mill has a keystone with the image of a crown and the initials "GR 3". The representations stand for Georg Rex as insignia of the Hanoverian King Georg III.

On July 1, 1905, lightning struck the mill, which set fire to the wooden structure clad with shingles and the surrounding gallery. The local fire brigade could not extinguish the fire and the mill burned down except for the octagonal stone substructure, which has been preserved to this day. In 1980 the Rehburg home and citizens' association renovated the remains of the building. A memorial stone erected on site testifies to this.
