Empire Yatenga

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Yatenga empire is one of the empires founded by the Mossi in the arch of Niger in the 14th century .

Its king, the Yatenga Naaba, has resided in Ouahigouya since the 18th century , but has no more administrative power today.

Yadega, son of Naaba Nassébiri of Ouagadougou , is said to have founded Yatenga after his brother took the throne in Ouagadougou. Starting from Gourcy , he expanded his sphere of influence, which later formed the Yatenga Empire.

In 1895 a protectorate treaty was signed with France. Today Yatenga is part of Burkina Faso.
