Boulsa is both a municipality ( commune rurale in French ) and a department encompassing the same area in the West African state of Burkina Faso in the Center-Nord region and the province of Namentenga . The municipality has 81,967 inhabitants in 33 villages and six sectors of the main town, the majority of them Mossi .
Boulsa was an independent kingdom until the French conquered at the end of the 19th century.
