Imperial Coal Council

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Reich Coal Council was a social and economic policy body at the time of the Weimar Republic . It was founded in 1920 on the basis of the Law on Regulating the Coal Industry (Coal Industry Act) of March 23, 1919.

The task consisted of assessing and advising the parliament and the government on all laws and other socio-political, economic and technical questions relating to the hard and lignite mining and other coal industries . The council was subordinate to the Reich Economics Minister . In addition to its advisory function, the council had a supervisory function for the coal and fuel industry, monitored prices and delivery conditions (or advised the Reich Minister of Economics on setting them) and participated in collective bargaining .

The council consisted of 60 members and, as an economic democratic body, had equal representation with 25 employer representatives , 22 employee representatives and 13 non-party members. Of the members, 35 came from coal production, 6 from trade and 19 from consumers. The council elected a grand committee as the executive body .

The council complemented itself in its tasks with the Reich Coal Association , which was a pure business association .

The council and the association were dissolved by the National Socialists in 1936 as part of the coordination of German economic policy.
