Imperial Assembly of Nijmegen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Imperial Assembly of Nijmegen took place in October 830 in the Palatinate Nijmegen . The main topic was the settlement of the conflict between Emperor Ludwig the Pious and the rebellion supported by his sons Lothar , Ludwig the German and Pippin .

The Reichstag of Nijmegen is only one stage in the long family quarrel of the Carolingian house , which is associated with the term Frankish division of the empire (approx. 817–843).

The main sources are the so-called Astronomus (c. 45) and Thegan (c. 37). The Annales Bertiniani and the Annales Mettenses Priores report briefly .

Engelbert Mühlbacher sifted through the available sources for the Carolingian band of the Regesta Imperii (2nd edition 1908). The Latin-German edition of Thegan and the Astronomus 1995 by Ernst Tremp as part of the MGH is helpful recently . Both tools are available online.
