The Heidenau tire factory is a tire manufacturer founded in 1946 as Heidenauer Gummiwerke and based in Heidenau in Saxony . After incorporation into the VEB tire combine Fürstenwalde ( Pneumant ) and later privatization, it operates today as Reifenwerk Heidenau GmbH & Co Produktions KG for rubber and plastic articles .

history

In 1946 the company was founded as Heidenauer Gummiwerke . In the first six years of the company's existence, molded rubber items such as floor mats and shoe soles were produced. The production of car tires began in 1952, and bicycle tire production was set up at the same time . In 1953, almost 100,000 tires were produced annually.

From 1969 to 1990 the Heidenau tire factory was incorporated into the VEB tire combine Fürstenwalde , with the entire GDR tire industry running under the name “Pneumant”. VEB Reifenwerk Heidenau specialized in the development and production of moped and motorcycle tires . However, tires for electric carts and agricultural machinery as well as air tubes for vehicle and motorcycle tires were also manufactured. In 1990 VEB was transferred to Pneumant Reifen GmbH Fürstenwalde and the Heidenau site was spun off from the company.

During the GDR era, up to 780 employees worked in the tire plant, and 108 after privatization by the Treuhandanstalt at the end of 1993 .

Since 1994 the official name is Reifenwerk Heidenau GmbH & Co. Produktions KG for rubber and plastic articles. The main shareholder is Gummi-Hansen GmbH & Co. Produktions KG in Hanover. At the end of 2015 around 200 people were employed and a turnover of 23 million euros was achieved.
