In 1946, the Riesa tire factory was re-established for retreading and new tire production and began producing tubeless tires in 1956. A year later, the manufacture of retreadable aircraft tires began . The new word and image brand "Pneumant" was introduced in 1959. From 1961 the company got involved in motorsport for the first time: the first Pneumant rally was held. In order to increase the number of units, another tire plant was built in Dresden-Gittersee .

In 1968 the entire GDR tire industry was brought together under the name VEB tire combine Fürstenwalde . The newly created monopoly had 11,000 employees and later manufactured tires for brands such as MZ , Wartburg and Trabant . In addition to the parent company, VEB Reifenwerk Fürstenwalde, the company also owned four new tire manufacturers (in Riesa , Heidenau , Dresden and Neubrandenburg). In addition, five plants for retreading tires (including VEB Berliner Reifenwerk ), a research center and the foreign trade company PNEUMANT BEREIFUNG were connected. In 1984 2.27 million tires were produced. In 1983 the combine exported tires worth 230 million VM .

After the turn

The turning point of 1989/90 brought far-reaching changes for Pneumant: in 1990, corporations were established in place of the previous combine, which three years later became Pneumant Reifen & Gummi Werke GmbH . In 1995 it went to the Dunlop subsidiary SP Reifenwerke GmbH and was renamed Pneumant Reifen GmbH . In 1998 Pneumant celebrated a big anniversary: The 100 millionth tire rolled off the assembly line in Riesa. Two years later, Pneumant received the European Milestones business award in the “Turnaround” category. In 2006 the first run-flat tires were produced for Dunlop in Fürstenwalde .

Due to declining sales, Dunlop announced the discontinuation of the brand in January 2012. In the end, only 50,000 Pneumant tires were manufactured per year.

Dunlop resumed production in 2015. The tires were offered in Germany and Austria by the Reutlingen trading group. In the same year Dunlop announced that it would leave the global joint venture with Goodyear; Goodyear should receive all shares in the joint venture at the end of the year.
