Reiner Kunze Prize
The Reiner Kunze Prize of the city of Oelsnitz in the Erzgebirge has been awarded every two years since 2007 together with the Erzgebirgssparkasse . The literature prize recognizes literary achievements in the sense of “poetry as resistance”.
The award of the Reiner Kunze Prize is aimed at artistic achievements at the highest linguistic level. It is an award that promotes literary endeavors where poetry exists as resistance. Not the political directly, but the linguistic dexterity as a broad view of the world in the direct meaning of the word, as it is inherent in Reiner Kunze's works. The award commission primarily focuses on the translators who are often second in line, and whose endeavors are to find the original, worded thought in a new language. The award ceremony takes place in May in Oelsnitz / Erzgeb. instead of. The prize is endowed with 4,000 euros.
