Pure Marquard

Reiner Marquard (* 1949 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German Protestant theologian ( systematic theology ). He is honorary professor at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg.

Life

Marquard studied Protestant theology at the universities of Bethel , Heidelberg , Göttingen and Basel . After completing his studies, he was an assistant at the Karl Barth Archive in Basel. Since 1977 he has worked as a pastor (since 1989 as dean ) in the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau. In 1999 he received a professorship at the Evangelical University of Freiburg and at the same time headed the teaching service of the Evangelical Church in Baden. From 2007 to 2014 he was rector of the Evangelical University of Freiburg . On July 13, 2015, he was appointed honorary professor by the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Freiburg.

Marquard received his doctorate in 1994 from the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main on the importance of the Isenheim Altarpiece by Mathias Grünewald in Karl Barth's work . He deals with the influence of the Reformation on Mathias Grünewald's art and the theological influence of Johann Sebastian Bach (Martin Luther, Lutheran Orthodoxy and Enlightenment). The focus of his work is the study of Karl Barth's theology and medical ethics (ethics at the end of life).
