Reiner from Osnabrück
Blessed Reiner von Osnabrück (* in the 12th century near Groningen ; † April 11, 1233 in Osnabrück ), hermit
Reiner, who probably came from Groningen, settled as a hermit near Osnabrück Cathedral around 1210 . There he lived in severe penance, castigated himself and tied his body with iron rings. When, after more than 20 years of this hermit life, he saw death coming, he opened his hermitage for the first time so that the sacraments could be given to him.
After his death, miracles at the grave are said to have occurred soon, which is why the hermit was greatly worshiped. In 1465 his bones were raised and buried in a shrine in Osnabrück Cathedral. Reiner is shown in hermit clothing, praying in his hermitage and with a cross and scourge.
