Reinhard Brudöhl (born November 11, 1943 in Mühlhausen ; † August 22, 1965 in Sommersdorf ) was a fatality on the inner-German border . Mühlhausen / Thuringia

Life

The trained optician Brudöhl was drafted into the GDR border troops in May 1965 . On August 22, 1965, he was assigned to the border service together with his post leader, NCO Wieland K. Suddenly he pointed the loaded machine gun at Wieland K. and asked him to flee to the Federal Republic together. Wieland K. threw himself to the ground in a flash and knocked aside Brudöhl's submachine gun when it fell. This released a burst of fire from Brudöhl's weapon. Wieland K. then fired three shots at his post while lying down and at close range. They hit Reinhard Brudöhl in the upper body. Wieland K. ran away and notified the border company via the border reporting network. A search party arriving shortly afterwards found Brudöhl's body.

A case against Wieland K. was discontinued in the 1990s because he had acted in self-defense.
