Reinhard Frieling

Reinhard Frieling (born June 15, 1936 in Dortmund ) is a German Protestant theologian. From 1981 to 1999 he was the director of the Evangelical Federation and head of the denominational institute in Bensheim .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1955 at the Humanist City High School in Dortmund, Frieling studied Protestant theology in Marburg , Münster and at the WCC Ecumenical College in Bossey near Geneva .

After his vicariate in the Evangelical Church of Westphalia (1960–1963) he was ordained in 1963 and worked until 1967 as a vocational school pastor of the United Church Districts of Dortmund and Lünen. In 1967 he received his doctorate from the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster with a thesis on the movement for faith and church constitution . He then worked as ecumenical and Latin America consultant at the denominational institute of the Evangelical Union in Bensheim. In 1976 he moved to the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau as a pastor , where, in addition to his work in the denominational institute , he was an adviser in the ecumenical department of the church administration in Darmstadt .

In 1981 Frieling became director of the Evangelical Union and head of the denominational institute. In addition, since 1988 he has been an honorary professor for systematic and ecumenical theology at the Philipps University of Marburg.

From 1983 to 2002 Reinhard Frieling was a member of the EKD Synod . He participated in all the plenary sessions of the World Council of Churches from 1968 in Uppsala to 2006 in Porto Alegre . Between 1993 and 1998 he was a member of the Joint Working Group of the WCC and the Roman Catholic Church .

Reinhard Frieling retired in 1999.
