Reinhard Singer

Reinhard Singer (born November 23, 1951 in Stuttgart ) is a German law scholar and professor at the Humboldt University in Berlin .

Life

From 1970 Singer studied mathematics , physics and law at the Universities of Stuttgart and Munich . In 1978 he passed his first state examination in law in Munich and was then a legal trainee in the district of the Munich Higher Regional Court until his second state examination in 1982 . He then worked as a research assistant and later as a research assistant to Claus-Wilhelm Canaris at his Munich chair. There Singer received his doctorate in 1992 with a thesis on contradicting behavior for Dr. iur. A year later he completed his habilitation and received the Venia Legendi for subjects including civil law and labor law .

After a substitute chair in the winter semester 1993/94 at the Humboldt University in Berlin, Singer accepted a professorship at the University of Rostock in 1994 , where he held the chair for civil law, labor law and commercial law as well as legal methodology until 2004 . From 1996 to 2004 he was also a part-time judge in the First Civil Senate of the Rostock Higher Regional Court . From 1995 to 2004 he was also director of the institute for banking law and banking economics at the University of Rostock, and from 1999 of the institute for legal law there. In 2004 he moved to the full professorship for civil law, labor law, legal law, family law and legal sociology at the Humboldt University in Berlin, which he has held since then. Since 2011 he has also been teaching at Tongji University in Shanghai. From 2012 to 2014 he was dean of the law faculty at HU Berlin.

Works (selection)

Singer's research focuses primarily on the general part of the BGB, civil law dogmatics, German labor law and legal psychology. In addition, Singer gained notoriety in professional circles through his commentary on §§ 116-124 and 130-133 BGB in the large commentary on the BGB Staudinger .
