Life

Christian Heinrich Reichel was born the son of an electoral Saxon court watchmaker.

He attended the Niklaschule (today: Alte Nikolaischule ) in Leipzig, initially with Rector Dietrich Dreßler (1673–1746) and later Johann Christoph Ortlob (1675–1751) and Christian Gottlob Haltaus (1702–1758), his other teachers were Johann Homilius (1671 –1750), Bareitt, Johann Christian Thiele (1692–1773) and Johann Gottfried Schwalbe († 1764); He then studied from 1754 at the University of Leipzig and heard lectures from Johann August Ernesti , Christian Fürchtegott Gellert , August Friedrich Müller , Johann Friedrich Bahrdt , Christian August Crusius and Carl Andreas Bel . After five years of study he came in 1759 as court master to the mining captain Carl Christian von Breitenbauch (1694–1721), master of Ranis Castle and in Petzkendorf and later as court master to General Leopold Johann von Platen in Sagan .

On the recommendation of his professor Christian Fürchtegott Gellert, he came to Denmark as a private tutor in 1769 and taught with the Count of Ahlefeldt in Tranekær for ten years . In 1772 he accompanied his twelve-year-old student to the University of Kiel and stayed there with him until 1777. Because he could not maintain the indigenous status, Christian Heinrich Reichel returned to Leipzig after a trip with some Danish noblemen through Germany and Switzerland and became Teachers of French, Danish and Swedish as well as German teachers for foreign students; In 1794 he became a French language teacher at the grammar school in Zittau .
