Leopold Johann von Platen

Leopold Johann von Platen (* 1726 - † December 11, 1780 in Sagan ) was a royal Prussian major general and chief of the 11th Dragoon Regiment . He was a knight of the Order of St. John and holder of the Pour le Mérite .

He was the third son of Lieutenant General Hans Friedrich von Platen and Hypolita Juliane von Podewils . General Dubislaw von Platen was his brother.

Life

He joined the Prussian army at the age of 13. In 1756 he became a major in Dragoon Regiment No. 1 , in 1757 he became a lieutenant colonel and in 1758 a colonel. In March of 1758 he became chief of the Dragoon Regiment No. 11 (Stechow), in 1759 he was named major general. In 1763 he was convicted of the surrender in Maxen by the court martial. But he wasn't released from the army until 1770.

He was involved in all of Frederick II's campaigns. In the Seven Years' War he acquired the Pour le Mérite from Kolin .

He was wounded in the battle of Kunersdorf and in the battle of Maxen . In the battle of Meuro (Pretsch) on October 29, 1759, he was able to defeat two grenadier battalions with his regiment. As a lieutenant he was Knight of St. John in the Komtur Lago, but he did not receive the knighthood until October 1, 1764 in Sonnenburg .

family

He married Dorothea von Eichstädt on September 27, 1754 (* 1733; † February 4, 1795). She got despite the condemnation of her husband because of the surrender at Maxen still a widow a grace content .
