Hans Friedrich von Platen

Hans Friedrich von Platen (born January 21, 1668 at Gut Sagard on Rügen , † May 17, 1743 in Mohrungen , Prussia) was a royal Prussian general of the cavalry .

He was a member of the Pomeranian noble family von Platen . His parents were Hans Friedrich von Platen and Maria Elisabeth von Münchow . His father was killed by a neighbor shortly before he was born. So his mother took over the upbringing.

Life

He began as a simple dragoon in the Brandenburg body dragon regiment. He fought with him in Hungary in 1686. In 1688 he came to Dragoon Regiment No. 3 (Derflinger). He was quartermaster and sergeant there. His excellent behavior drew the attention of Colonel Johann Siegmund von Heyden to him. He was appointed adjutant and cornet in 1691 . When the regiment was reduced in 1697, he was released. But Margrave Philipp Wilhelm soon brought him into his regiment as a cornet and so he fought as an officer in the War of the Spanish Succession. He was a lieutenant at the siege of Kaiserswerth and Venlo. From 1702 he became General Adjutant General von Natzmer . With his help he became staff master in the Gensdarmes regiment . In 1703 he was involved in the enclosure of funds and in the conquest of Bonn. At the battle of Höchstädt , when the French under Villar attacked the Imperial and Styrum , he was captured, but was soon exchanged. In 1704 he fought in the Battle of Höchstädt . In 1705 it can be found on the Upper Rhine and in 1706 on the Lower Rhine. In 1707 he was promoted to major and fought the following year in the battle of Oudenaarde , where he stood out in particular. He is present in the conquest of Lille and Ghent and in the battle near Mons. In 1709 he fought in the Battle of Malplaquet , where he was noticed by the then Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm , who recommended him to the king and gave him the Putzermin estate and half of Fritzow. He stayed in Holland until the Peace of Utrecht . He fought at Douay, Bethume and Aire in 1710 and at Bouchain in 1711.

In the Pomeranian campaign of 1715/1716 he was in the siege of Stralsund . After Friedrich Wilhelm I took office he became a lieutenant colonel, on June 28, 1717 he became a colonel and in 1725 took over the Dragoon Regiment No. 1. In 1728 he was appointed major general and on July 12, 1739, lieutenant general. After the Battle of Mollwitz in 1741, his regiment was divided and the then Colonel Karl Friedrich von Posadowsky got his own regiment from it.

On May 12, 1743 Frederick II appointed him general of the cavalry; whether he ever found out about it is unclear, since he died on May 17, 1743 in Mohrungen.
