Hans Sigismund von Zieten (* 1704 in Metzelthin , Ruppinscher Kreis , † August 25, 1758 near Zorndorf ) was a royal Prussian major general .

His father was Kaspar Siegmund von Zieten , Lord of Metzelthin and Langen. His brother was Major General Christian Wilhelm von Zieten († April 8, 1778 in Züllichau).

Life

Zieten joined the army in 1723 with Count Lottum's cuirassier regiment (No. 7) and was one of the courier officers in the First Silesian War , whom Frederick the Great used to carry his orders. When this task fell to the hunters on horseback, Zieten received a company with the cuirassier regiment Margrave Friedrich (No. 5), with which he took part in the siege of Neisse and the 2nd Silesian War in autumn 1741 . At Hohenfriedberg he was wounded in the arm on June 4, 1745 by an Austrian dragoon with a pistol shot. In 1750 he was promoted to major and in 1755 to lieutenant colonel. In 1756 he went into the field for the third time and was captured on October 1 in the Battle of Lobositz after he had lost his horse and was wounded again. But it was soon replaced.

After the commander of the regiment Margrave Friedrich fell near Kolin on June 18, 1757 , he became his successor. At the end of 1757 he was promoted to major general without having been a colonel. At the head of the regiment he took part in the Battle of the Lohe on November 22nd, 1757 , commanded a heavy cavalry brigade in the enclosure of Schweidnitz in the spring of 1758 and fell on August 25th in the same position in the battle of Zorndorf ; his body was never found.

He was married twice. His first wife was Sophie Anna von Platen († June 9, 1755), whom he married in 1743. She was the daughter of General Hans Friedrich von Platen . The couple had a son and a daughter (* 1752, † February 17, 1771).

The daughter was married to Kuno Ludwig von Wilmersdorf (* March 18, 1720, † April 26, 1782), Oberhofmarschall of the Margrave of Schwedt .

The second wife was Dorothea Elisabeth von Podewils from the Woitzel family (* 1728; † February 24, 1800). She is said to have given birth to a son after his death: Friedrich Hans Sigismund von Zieten (born November 30, 1758).
