Reinhard Steinlein (born November 5, 1919 , † October 25, 2006 ) was superintendent of the church districts Finsterwalde and Nauen of the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia .

Live and act

After studying theology during the Second World War , he was introduced as pastor in 1956 as superintendent of the KKR Finsterwalde and subsequently in 1970 as superintendent of the KKR Nauen. During the German occupation he defended the Christian faith against the strong pressure within the GDR and thus resisted the need to adapt to the state ideology. This resistance came to a climax with the public rejection of the conversation between the chairman of the GDR State Council, Erich Honecker , and Bishop Albrecht Schönherr on March 6, 1978, in which he described an outgrowth of the church's "irresponsible policy of adjustment" to the GDR government saw. However, he repeatedly sought proximity to communities in western Germany. As a result, he left the synod of the Berlin-Brandenburg Church in the Eastern Region and resigned all leadership activities.

In recognition of his services, the State Secretary for Culture of Berlin, Krista Tebbe, awarded him the Federal Cross of Merit on August 21, 2002 .

He died on October 25, 2006 shortly before his 87th birthday.
