Reinhart Gaugg (born July 17, 1953 in Wolfsberg , Carinthia ) is a former Austrian politician ( FPÖ ).

A photo of him, in which he and Siegfried Kampl carried Jörg Haider, who came to power in a fight vote, on shoulders together with Siegfried Kampl at the FPÖ party conference in Innsbruck in 1986 , is relevant to contemporary history and is very well known .

Political career

From 1989 to 1991 Reinhart Gaugg was a member of the Carinthian state parliament , and from 1985 to 1989 a local councilor in Klagenfurt . In 1991 he became Vice Mayor of the Carinthian state capital Klagenfurt, a position he held until 1997. From 1992 to 1994 he was the executive regional party chairman of the FPÖ Carinthia, and from 1999 to 2002 he was deputy club chairman of the FPÖ in the National Council .

In 2002, Gaugg was to be appointed Deputy Director General of the Pension Insurance Institution (PVA) under heavy criticism from the opposition parties who suspected a political change of color . However, in a secret vote, contrary to the previous agreements, at least one mandate of the ÖVP refused to approve, so that he never got the required majority. It is still unknown to this day who gave the no vote. The mandataries therefore decided to mark the ballot papers by name in the next election, which was discussed under constitutional law. But this choice no longer came about.

Drink driving

In early August 2002, Gaugg was found drunk by the police behind the wheel of his car. He then renounced the desired position at the PVA , his seat in the National Council and his function as deputy club chairman of the FPÖ. For the voluntary resignation after his alcohol excess, Gaugg is said to have been compensated by the FPÖ with a secret maintenance agreement , which should guarantee him € 10,000 a month up to the age of 60. In fact, € 115,000 was paid out. Susanne Riess-Passer , then party leader, and Peter Westenthaler , then General Secretary of the FPÖ, denied such an agreement in court.

In 2005, Gaugg was picked up again by the police while he was very drunk at the wheel of his car. A statutory Alko test he refused what a blood alcohol of 1.6 per mille automatically in Austria blood alcohol concentration is equated in the blood. In July 2006, Gaugg won the first instance in his lawsuit against the FPÖ. The Vienna Regional Court for Civil Law Matters awarded the plaintiff a total of 352,000 euros. In November 2007, the Higher Regional Court gave the FPÖ the right to appeal and the earlier judgment was overturned.

Others

Gaugg, then Vice Mayor of Klagenfurt and executive Carinthian FPÖ regional party chairman, got into the talk when, in November 1993, when asked by a journalist what he was thinking about National Socialism , he spelled the word “Nazi” with “new-attractive-purposeful-imaginative” .

At the end of August 2013, he tried to be accepted as a member of the SPÖ , which was rejected by their side.
