Reinhart Jarisch

Reinhart Jarisch (born June 11, 1944 ) is an Austrian doctor. He is a specialist in skin and venereal diseases , works primarily in the field of allergology and was head of the Floridsdorf Allergy Center in Vienna until 2010 .

Life

After studying medicine at the University of Vienna and studying in Denmark and the USA, Jarisch completed his specialist training in skin and venereal diseases at the University Dermatology Clinic in Vienna by 1976. He has been a university lecturer since 1980. He completed his habilitation with a thesis on bee venom allergy. Until 1989 he was senior physician at the Vienna General Hospital and head of the allergy outpatient clinic. In 1980, together with Manfred Götz , he founded the Floridsdorfer Allergy Center in Vienna, which he managed until 2010.

In 2013, Jarisch described the introduction of antihistamines - premedication for allergy vaccinations as the most important of his research achievements in his view. Second, he mentions the discovery of the fact that many apparent allergies are intolerances . Jarisch was the first to describe histamine intolerance .

In 2012 Jarisch was awarded the honorary prize of the Allergology Working Group of the Austrian Society for Dermatology and Venereology, in the same year he was honored with the Clemens von Pirquet Medal of the Austrian Society for Allergology and Immunology.
