Reinhold Heller (painter)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Reinhold Heller (born April 26, 1933 in Haid , Bohemia ; † November 18, 1993 in Eresing , Bavaria ) was a German painter and member of the Munich artist groups Wir und Geflecht.

life and work

During his studies with Richard Seewald at the Munich Academy from 1953 to 1958, Heller experienced the rise of non-representational painting. While still a student, he met some like-minded people in the artist group Quattrocento in 1955 . The programmatic group name was reminiscent of the time when modern painting was created in the 15th century in Italy, the epoch of which contemporaries had just declared to be out of date. Heller was not looking for a break in tradition or even a new beginning without preconditions, but preferred to see himself and his work as part of art history. In addition, like Picasso , Asger Jorn or Hans Platschek, he held fast to the object - or at least to the assertion of an object. The association with the artist group We, of which he became a member in 1961. In addition to studying fine arts, he also studied violin with Edith von Voigtländer at the University of Music. 1958 to 1960 he made his state examination in art education. From 1960 to 1993 Heller was an art teacher at the St. Ottilien Humanist High School and has lived in Eresing ever since . At the beginning of his time as a member of the group We, Heller initiated the shooting of the film Über den Barocken Raum . The baroque spatial experience was an important inspiration for Heller. This can be seen in his works above all in the fact that they are usually composed around a center, like the baroque church around the altar. In 1966 we merged with the artist group SPUR under the group name Geflecht.

From around 1970 he withdrew from painting and concentrated on his teaching post, his family and violin making. It was not until the 1980s that a very musical late work began, in which he brought his two passions, art and music, to a synthesis.
