Reinhold Puppel

Reinhold Puppel (* before 1913; † autumn 1956 in Quedlinburg ) was a German art dealer .

Life

On February 1, 1913, he and Heinrich Hollstein founded the Hollstein & Puppel art dealer and antiquarian shop in Charlottenburg (part of Berlin since 1920) at Meinekestrasse 19. In the first auctions, in addition to old English and French engravings, graphics by contemporary artists such as Max Klinger , Max Liebermann , Hans Thoma , Lovis Corinth and Josef Hegenbarth . From 1914 the art dealer concentrated on etchings, copperplate engravings and woodcuts from the 15th to 18th centuries. There were no auctions between 1915 and 1918. In 1923 the art dealer's inventory consisted of around 200,000 sheets. In 1929, after moving to the nearby Kurfürstendamm 220, there was an exhibition of English and French graphics, including works by modern artists such as Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso . In 1934 the art shop moved to Fasanenstrasse 65.

From 1937 Reinhold Puppel ran the business as Reinhold Puppel vorm [als]. Hollstein & Puppel continued on their own, as his partner Heinrich Hollstein, as a Jew, could not join the Reich Chamber of Fine Arts, art trade , and no longer received a license for auctions. The first sole auction only took place at the end of the year. In 1941 there was the 60th and last auction.

Reinhold Puppel moved to Quedlinburg in 1944 and opened an art antiquarian there. He died there in the fall of 1956.
