Werner J. Schweiger

Werner J. Schweiger (born January 7, 1949 in Lilienfeld , Lower Austria ; † March 11, 2011 in Vienna ) was an Austrian art historian and publicist .

Life

Schweiger spent his childhood in St. Aegyd am Neuwalde and then came to Vienna as a choir boy . His professional training was in gastronomy. Scientifically, Schweiger was an autodidact .

Schweiger began subject areas before they found wider interest. This happened with Vienna around 1900 , where Schweiger appeared as the editor of works by Peter Altenberg and Robert Müller . He started the Wiener Werkstätte , from literature to architecture, and especially to the checkered economic history of the company. He also wrote works on the Viennese coffee house and the Art Nouveau gardens . He worked for Kolo Moser and the young Oskar Kokoschka . Noteworthy are his work in commercial art of Viennese Modernism to commercial work, Ball donations, bank notes, invitations, trays, menus, posters, advertising brands, logos and securities. With art collectors and art dealers in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland 1905–1937 , he worked out the basics for restitution research . He also had a website on the art trade of modernism . All in all, he achieved a lot for cultural studies in Austria.
