Return travel insurance

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A repatriation travel insurance is an insurance for which the insurer takes over the costs of the repatriation of a traveler and possibly their accompanying relatives and often also organizes this repatriation. Often this insurance is linked to travel health insurance .

idea

If someone falls ill on their journey or there is another obstacle to their journey that suddenly occurs (e.g. riots or natural disasters in a destination country), a quick return trip is often in the interests of the person concerned. In this case, however, a return trip can be difficult, as z. B. new tickets have to be purchased and in the event of illness the person concerned may only be able to travel to a limited extent. For example, if he has broken a bone , he will not be able to carry his hand luggage at the airport himself, so he needs special support. In order to alleviate these problems, a repatriation insurance may offer to pay for and organize flight tickets of a higher class of transport (e.g. business class instead of economy class) (because of the special service for those affected or because all seats in the lower class) Class are fully booked).

It should also be noted that many airlines (such as Thai Airways ) will not carry someone who is initially considered sick, regardless of the diagnosis . As justifications are

specified. This applies even if the person concerned only has a broken bone . Thai Airways, for example, usually allows 72 hours from the application to decide whether a passenger should still be transported. This rule applies regardless of whether the passenger already has a confirmed flight ticket or not. In case of doubt, the customer concerned is not allowed to fly despite having paid for the ticket. Such cases can also be dealt with by a repatriation insurance , in which the insurer organizes another flight with another airline at its own expense , where the fit-to-fly test runs faster. This is particularly useful if the medical care in the country of travel is not sufficient for the relevant incident (e.g. if an operation is necessary), but it is in the home country , i.e. the flight is medically indicated .
