Netherlands Aircraft Company

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Netherlands Aircraft Company NV (NAC; formerly Rekkof Aircraft NV ) is a Dutch company. It was founded by the former owner of the Belgian airline VLM Airlines , Jaap Rosen Jacobsen, with the aim of resuming production of the Fokker 70 and Fokker 100 aircraft types .

history

At the beginning of 1998 Rekkof ( Fokker written backwards) launched the plan for the first time to resume production of the Fokker 70 and 100, possibly with new engines and further improvements. The production of these types was stopped with the bankruptcy of the Fokker -flugzeugwerke in 1996. Several times, most recently in November 2005, it was announced that negotiations were being held with Iran Air as well as with the Dutch airline KLM about the purchase of some copies. Despite many such announcements, no sales contract was ever signed. Only with VLM Airlines, which belongs to the same owner as Rekkof, an early preliminary contract for four Rekkof Fokker 70s was concluded, which, however, was never converted into a binding sales contract due to the lack of further orders from other customers.

KLM, which had shown great interest in the meantime, said in the late autumn of 2005 about rumors of a Rekkof order by KLM that although they were fundamentally interested, they were not in negotiations with Rekkof. So far, no contracts have been concluded with Iran or other interested parties mentioned in the meantime.

In November 2005 contradicting reports about the future of Rekkof became known. On the one hand, it was reported on November 3rd that Rekkof had given up after KLM postponed the decision to purchase aircraft in the size class of the Fokker 70 for at least two years. The financial resources are not sufficient to wait another two years without customers for a possible order from the most promising customer. This contradicts a report in the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf on November 7, 2005, in which Rekkof boss Jaap Rosen Jacobsen announced that the plans will be pursued and the restart of Fokker production is imminent.

After almost two years without any updates, Rekkof's own website was revised at the end of 2006 and consisted only of a brief presentation of the project, without further information on the status or other news.

Flight International magazine reported at the end of September 2006 that there were plans to restart Fokker 70/100 production together with Rekkof in India. However, the talks and plans were still at an early stage.

According to a report by "airliners.de" in March 2010, the Dutch government approved a loan of 20 million euros for the development of the Fokker XF 100. Subcontractors such as Atkins (formerly Nedtech based in Hoofddorp / NL) worked on the structural and aerodynamic Redesign of the aircraft model.

In September 2011 the reboot of the Fokker 100 as NG Aircraft F100 with a planned first flight date for 2013 was announced by Rekkof. At the 2012 Farnborough Air and Space Show , the concept of a stretched version for 120 passengers called the F-120NG was presented.

The company renamed itself the Netherlands Aircraft Company and announced at the Farnborough Fair in 2014 that it anticipated funding for the new aircraft and a development time of five years; however, a start date for the development was not given. The aircraft has been presented on the company's website as a slightly enlarged Fokker 130 since around the beginning of 2016 .
