The Fokker 70 regional airliner is the successor to the Fokker F28 for up to 80 passengers from the former Dutch aircraft manufacturer Fokker Flugzeugwerke. It was produced as a smaller sister model after the Fokker 100 .

history

The regional airliner Fokker 70 was officially presented in June 1993. At this point in time, 15 firm orders had been placed. The regional airliner is the shortened sister model of the Fokker 100 , it is intended for up to 79 passengers. So it should serve as the successor to the Fokker F-28 Fellowship . The Fokker 70 prototype was the second Fokker 100 prototype, it was shortened by one fuselage section in front of and one behind the wing boxes. The length was reduced by 4.62 m. The turbofan engines remained identical to the Rolls-Royce Tay 620. The wings and the cockpit also remained unchanged, so that both regional airliners are operated at the same time. The Fokker 70 had its maiden flight on April 2, 1993, series production began in February 1994 and the maiden flight of the series machine took place on July 12, 1994. Since the Dutch manufacturer Fokker went bankrupt in February 1996, only 48 Fokker 70 machines were built. At the end of October 2017, the aircraft type Fokker 70 was withdrawn from KLM Cityhopper .
