KLM Cityhopper ( NLM until 1977 , then NLM CityHopper until 1991 ) is a Dutch regional airline based in Haarlemmermeer and based at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol . It is a subsidiary of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines .
history
KLM Cityhopper was founded in 1966 as Nederlandse Luchtvaart Maatschappij (NLM) and took up flight operations within the Netherlands on August 29, 1966 with a Fokker F-27 , followed by the first international short-haul routes in 1975. On March 3, 1978, NLM took with them a Fokker F28 her first jet aircraft .
After the merger with NetherLines in April 1991, the company was given its current name KLM Cityhopper (at times cityhopper was written in lower case ). After the Fokker 70 was taken out of service , the fleet now consists only of machines from the Brazilian manufacturer Embraer .
In 2004, KLM Cityhopper fully integrated the British KLM uk .
The last Fokker 50s of the KLM Cityhopper left the fleet at the end of March 2010, and the last Fokker 100s followed in autumn 2012 .
In August 2013, the modernization of the remaining Fokker 70 , which received a new cabin interior, began. At the end of October 2017, these aircraft were also removed from the KLM fleet, thus ending the era of the Fokker machines at KLM after 97 years.
Destinations
KLM Cityhopper operates numerous regional and feeder flights within Europe, including numerous German-speaking destinations , for its parent company KLM Royal Dutch Airlines from its base in Amsterdam .

Incidents
NLM Cityhopper and KLM Cityhopper have recorded two total losses of aircraft in their history, both with fatalities:
- On October 6, 1981, a Fokker F28-4000 ( aircraft registration PH-CHI ) of NLM Cityhopper got into a tornado on the flight from Rotterdam to Eindhoven and crashed near Moerdijk after the right wing was torn off. All 17 people on board died (see also NLM Cityhopper flight 431 ) .
- On April 4, 1994, a Saab 340B (PH-KSH) crashed while taking off at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol . The machine was on its way from Amsterdam to Cardiff when a control light for the engine oil pressure came on. Even before the first officer consulted the checklist, the master brought the right engine to idle. After going through the checklist, it was decided to continue the flight, but the captain forgot to restart the shutdown engine. At an altitude of 17,000 feet, the machine's performance limit was reached and it stopped climbing. Since they suspected a defect, the pilots returned to Amsterdam. As the captain to a go- decided the machine rolled directly in front of the runway to the right and crashed. Three people were killed; 9 inmates were injured. The reason was the misconduct of the pilots who did not bring the propeller of the supposedly damaged engine into the sail position (see also KLM flight 433 ) .
Trivia
- The Dutch King Willem-Alexander flies regularly as co-pilot at KLM . Up until her time he flew with a Fokker 70 at KLM Cityhopper, due to the retirement of those in October 2017, he is retraining on the Boeing 737 .
