The Fokker F.10 was a three-engine passenger aircraft that was built in New Jersey by the Fokker Aircraft Corporation of America , the successor to the Atlantic Aircraft Corporation . This company, which was initially founded to sell the aircraft built by Fokker in the Netherlands in the USA, later took over the construction of aircraft based on the designs of the main factory.
development
The twelve-seat Focker F.10 appeared in 1927. The basis was the Fokker F.VII of the Dutch parent company. Various American airlines received the model. This was followed by the improved 14-seat F.10A , which had an enlarged fuselage and a modified wing structure. The nickname was "Super Trimotor". The end of the type was initiated by a sensational crash (see Transcontinental and Western Air flight 5 ).
Military variants
The C-5 was an F.10A (USAAC serial number 29-405) procured by the United States Army Air Corps , which was initially fitted with Pratt & Whitney R- 1340-3 radial engines, but later replaced by Wright R-975 ( Wright J-6) were replaced.
The RA-4 was a standard F.10A ( BuA-8841 ) that was tested by the US Marine Corps and was equipped with a modified nose and tail unit. However, the USMC rejected the machine because of insufficient performance. In 1933 it was scrapped. The versions RA-1 to RA-3 were variants of the F.VIIA.
