The Fokker D.XI was a single-seat fighter aircraft produced by the Dutch aircraft manufacturer Fokker .
history
The Fokker D.XI was a design by Reinhold Platz . Since the Netherlands were unable to procure the aircraft for financial reasons, Fokker built the machine for export. The most important customer was the USSR , which flew the type with its front-line units until 1929. Other customers were Romania, Spain, Argentina and the USA , which they operated with 440 HP (328 kW) Curtiss D-12 twelve-cylinder V-engines as PW-7 . In addition, Switzerland received two copies for testing.
construction
The Fokker D.XI was designed as a one and a half decker . The lower wing was much smaller than the upper one. It had single-handled V-wing struts. The wings were staggered at the leading edge. With the exception of the US-operated version, all had a Hispano-Suiza engine with two coolers on the bow sides.
