The Fokker S-11 Instructor is a single-engine propeller training aircraft that was developed and manufactured by the former Dutch aircraft manufacturer Fokker .

History and construction

Fokker's first activity after World War II was the development of a new military aircraft for basic pilot training, the S-11 Instructor. An aircraft dealer placed an order for 100 of these aircraft in 1946 before construction had even started. The first prototype took off from Schiphol Airport on December 18, 1947. During test flights in early 1948 it was found that some aerodynamic changes needed to be made to improve the handling of the aircraft.

In the same year there were demonstrations for several air forces, which were followed by orders from the Royal Netherlands Air Force and the Israeli, Italian, Brazilian, Paraguayan and Bolivian air forces. Over 180 aircraft were built under license in Italy as Macchi M.416 . Numerous S-11s still fly today. A Fokker subsidiary in Brazil produced the S-11 with a different landing gear than the S-12 .
