The Fokker S.IX was a two-seat biplane made by the Fokker Flugzeugwerke in service with the Dutch armed forces from 1938 to 1940.
history
The S.IX was successor to the Fokker s.IV . Like its predecessor, it was primarily used for basic flying training, but was also suitable for aerobatics. The 15 machines delivered flew mainly liaison, evacuation and medical flights against a superior air opponent until the Netherlands surrendered on May 14, 1940. After the Second World War, 3 S.IX / 1 aircraft with Genet Major built by the Kromhut engine factory were sold Engines built.
construction
The S.IX was built in a composite construction. The fuselage consisted of welded steel tubing, which was clad with metal in the front area, the rear part was covered with fabric. The wings were strongly staggered and partly plywood impregnated with phenolic resin , partly covered with fabric.
There were two series that differed only in the engine used and thus somewhat in the flight performance.

The S.IX / 1 was powered by a five or seven cylinder radial engine from Armstrong Siddeley Genet Major Motor, which developed 123 kW (167 hp). Manufacturer was among others the company Kromhout. A total of about 24 machines of this version were completed. It is uncertain whether all machines have been delivered. The S.IX / 1 completed its maiden flight in 1937 and was the standard training aircraft for prospective Dutch pilots until 1940.
- S.IX / 2
The difference to the S.IX / 1 was the use of a Menasco Buccaneer six-cylinder in - line engine with 165 hp. A construction contract for 27 machines for the Dutch naval aviation could not be fulfilled because of the German attack on Holland in the spring of 1940. All were destroyed in Navy Camp De Kooy .
