The Remembrance Drive is a main road in the east of the Australian state of New South Wales . It connects the Camden Bypass in Camden South with the Hume Highway in Aylmerton . From 1928 to 1984 the Hume Highway ran along this route. Today this part of the Old Hume Highway is known as State Road 89.

course

In Camden South, Remembrance Drive is the continuation of Camden Bypass (S89) to the south. After about 6 km the road turns south-west and after another 8 km reaches the city of Picton , where the Picton Road (S88) joins from the east . The route continues south via Tahmoor and Bargo .

3 km southeast of Bargo, Remembrance Drive reaches the Hume Highway (N31) and runs parallel to it through Yanderra and Yerrinbool to Aylmerton . There it joins the Hume Highway and ends.

history

The road was also part of the Remembrance Driveway from Sydney to Canberra in honor of Australian soldiers deployed abroad. In 1984 this street was also moved to the new route of the Hume Highway. The old route has been called Remembrance Drive since then.

The route is historic and has always served as the main link between Sydney and Melbourne . The first road across the Razorback Range was built by groups of inmates in 1825. In 1830 the road on today's route was built. Some sections of this road are still made of concrete that was laid in the 1920s and 1930s. The section over the Razorback Range is relatively steep. Between Picton and Bargo the road runs through Tahmoor and does not follow the even older Hume Highway through Thirlmere, Hill Top and Colo Vale .

The cities along this route are historically interesting and attract tourists.
