Course of the road
|
The Camden Bypass is a bypass road in the east of the Australian state of New South Wales . It connects Narellan Road in Narellan Vale with Remembrance Drive in Camden South. He bypasses the historic city of Camden to the west.
course
The Camden Bypass branches off the Narellan Road (Met-9) to the southwest at Narellan Vale . About 500 m further northwest the Camden Valley Way flows , from which the Camden Bypass takes the designation as State Road 89. The road through Spring Farm leads to the Macarthur Bridge , which spans the Nepean River . It is the architectural highlight of the bypass.
The concrete bridge, built from 1971 to 1973, is 1.12 km long and has 26 sections. It spans the river and its floodplain. The Hume Highway (N31) originally ran over this flood-proof route, but since the South Western Freeway opened in December 1980, the N31 has been relocated there. The old route then became State Road 89.
In Camden South, the Camden Bypass becomes Remembrance Drive (S89).
State of development
The line has been expanded to two lanes. However, since there are regular traffic jams at peak times, further expansion is planned.
