The Camden Valley Way is a main road in the east of the Australian state of New South Wales . It connects the South Western Freeway south of Casula / Prestons with the Argyle Road in Camden . This makes the road an important link between Sydney and the historic city of Camden on the Nepean River .

history

The road runs along the old route of the Hume Highway . In December 1980 the N31 was relocated to the recently completed South Western Freeway and the Camden Valley Way (together with the Camden Bypass and Remembrance Drive , which was also bypassed ) was named State Road 89.

course

South of the suburbs of Casula and Prestons , the Camden Valley Way branches off the Old Hume Highway (S31) and its continuation to the south, Campbelltown Road (S56) to the west. It passes under the South Western Motorway (Met-5) and crosses the Sydney Water Supply Channel . At Leppington the road turns to the southwest and in Narellan reaches Metroad 9 at the juncture between The Northern Road and Narellan Road. 500 m further southeast, the Camden Bypass (S89) branches off from Narellan Road and takes over the designation as State Road 89.

The Camden Valley Way continues southwest, crosses the Nepean River and ends in downtown Camden where it merges into Argyle Street .

State of development

The road has two lanes. Only the approx. 500 m between the junction from the Old Hume Highway and the connection to the South Western Freeway have four lanes.

The Camden Valley Way became a major arterial road for the fast-growing south-western suburbs of the New South Wales capital. Since there are more and more traffic jams at peak times, the road should be expanded.
