The René Schickele Society (French: Culture et Bilinguisme d'Alsace et de Moselle ) is an association in Alsace and Eastern Lorraine with its headquarters in Strasbourg , which is committed to the preservation of dialect and the maintenance of standard German. The company is named after the Alsatian writer René Schickele .

Foundation of the company

In the 1960s, some Alsatians and East Lorraine people worried about the Alemannic and Franconian dialect in their region, as this was in decline. So in 1966 a group met at the University of Strasbourg to talk about it. As a result, in 1968 15 people founded the association, which was originally called "Cercle René Schickele Circle", with the aim of stopping the decline of the language.

Society's goals

With the initiative Bilingual: Our Future , the association succeeded in reintroducing German lessons at primary schools in the region. It was completely abolished in 1945. The association wanted the reintroduction to be very important, as it advocates that both dialect and standard language be rehabilitated.
