René Adamczewski (born November 15, 1968 in East Berlin ) is a former German soccer player for 1. FC Union Berlin . For the East Berlin club, he played for several years in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of the GDR Football Association (DFV) . Adamczewski is a multiple junior national player of the DFV.

Athletic career

Adamczewski's career as a football player began in 1977 at BSG Berlin Breweries . In 1979 he moved to 1. FC Union Berlin, where he became a junior national player in 1987. He played three international junior matches. For the 1987/88 season he was nominated by 1. FC Union for its league team. After he had already played in the cup game of the first round KKW Greifswald - 1. FC Union (0: 2) on September 12th, he made his debut in the league in the first game of the second half of the season on February 27th, 1988 FC Union - Forward Frankfurt (2: 2) he was called up in the left midfield. By the end of the season, the 1.84 m tall midfielder had played a total of eleven league games. At the beginning of 1988 he also moved up to the U-21 national team, for which he completed his first of nine junior international matches on April 12, 1988. In 1988 Adamczewski also completed his apprenticeship as a car mechanic. During the 1988/89 season, coach Karsten Heine Adamczewski turned into a striker, with the success that he became the Unioner's most successful goalscorer. His five league goals, however, reflect the weakness of his team's shooting, which achieved the worst yield of all league teams with 22 hits and thus became relegated. The Union fans honored Adamczewski's performance anyway and voted him “Unioner of the Year 1989”.

In the GDR league season 1989/90 Adamczewski was again one of the pillars of the Unioner with 30 point games and eleven goals, who, as second in the season, missed the immediate rise. In the second league year in 1990/91, Adamczewski first noticed knee problems, which later led to the premature end of his sporting career. During this season he only played 18 of the 29 point games, but still scored eight goals. In the following six relegation games he was not used. From the 1991/92 season on, the 1. FC Union Berlin played in the third-class Northeast Oberliga after the GDR football game was closed . There Adamczewski was still active until 1993, graduated from the 70 point games of the two seasons only 31 games in which he scored only four goals. His last competitive game for Union was the encounter on the 33rd match day 1992/93 1. FC Union - Energie Cottbus (2: 1). It was his 127th competitive game and he scored a total of 31 goals in these games. Because of his persistent knee problems, he then had to give up competitive sports.
