René Bertschy

René Bertschy (born January 11, 1912 in Bern as René Bärtschy ; † November 28, 1999 in Zurich ) was a Swiss jazz musician ( bassist , initially drummer ) and band leader.

Live and act

Bertschy graduated from the technical school after elementary school , but found no job and therefore became a musician. Before that he played drums in various amateur bands. In 1935 he joined the Dutch professional band Chocolate Kiddies when they made a guest appearance in Chikito in Bern . After performing in various European cities, he went to Holland with the Chocolate Kiddies , where he met his future wife, Kitty Ramon. In the meantime, he also recorded with Coleman Hawkins and Ernest Berner in 1937 . Shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War , he and Kitty Ramon moved to Switzerland, where they founded the band Swing Kiddies together with his brother Leon Bertschy , and he also played with The Lanigiros . Later he played with Buddy Bertinat and especially with Teddy Stauffer and then with Eddie Brunner's Original Teddys , where he was also involved in various recordings. With the teddy bears he also appeared in the film Margrittli and d'Soldate (1940). Then he played with the Basler Orchester Lanigiro until 1947 , after which he founded his own band with the Continentals , with which he toured Germany several times and which initially included Rolf Goldstein . From 1963 he worked in retail and lived in Basel before moving to Zurich in 1968.
