René Méjean
René Méjean (* 1904 in Ganges (Hérault) , † 1986 in Saint-Hilaire-Saint-Mesmin ) was a French journalist and author of the Occitan language.
life and work
René (Occitan: Reinié ) Méjean was a high school teacher for Spanish. As a committed member (and from 1978 Majoral, i.e. Senator) of Félibrige , he was editor-in-chief of the Revue de langue et littérature d'oc (Organ des Center d'études et de cultures provençales ) from 1960 to 1966 , and also (as the successor to Roger Barthe ) from 1968 to 1986 editor of the magazine La France latine (successor was his daughter Suzanne Thiolier-Méjean ). Méjean translated works by his Italian translator Marino Piazzolla (1910–1985) into Occitan.
The poet Méjean was awarded the Félibrige Prize Grand lauréat des Jeux floraux in 1976 .
