Roger Barthe

Roger Barthe (* 1911 in Magalas , † 1981 in Montpellier ) was a French Hispanist , Occitanist , Romanist and lexicographer.

Life

Roger Barthe, son of the Occitan poet Émile Barthe (1874-1939), existed in 1943 the Agrégation in Spanish, but then became director of an insurance company. He became involved in Félibrige , where he was Majoral (Senator) from 1965, and produced successful dictionaries of Occitan.

Barthe was an active advocate of the political union of the Romance countries from Romania to South America. This so-called "idée latine", which was already represented in the 19th century by Alphonse Roque-Ferrier and Charles de Tourtoulon , prompted him to publish the Bulletin de liaison de l'Action latine 1–14, 1954–1955, the Annales de l'idée latine , 1960–1963, and especially (from 1954 to 1968) the magazine La France latine founded in 1950 by Pierre Vergnes and Jean Sastre . Organe mensuel de l'Association des intellectuels du Massif central et de l'Association des intellectuels occitans Pays d'Oc-Union latine. Lettres, Arts, Sciences, Tourisme, Régionalisme, Amicalisme. Aquitaine, Auvergne, Dauphiné, Languedoc, Limousin, Provence, Roussillon, Pays latins (successors: René Méjean and Suzanne Thiolier-Méjean ), which still exists today and under the title La France latine - Revue d'études d'oc as a cultural and Research Forum for Occitan at the University of Rennes, edited by Philippe Blanchet.
