René Schwarzenbach

René P. Schwarzenbach (born December 18, 1945 in Erlenbach ) is a Swiss chemist . He is professor emeritus for environmental chemistry and head of the department for environmental sciences at the ETH Zurich .

Schwarzenbach received his doctorate in 1973 from the chemistry department at ETH Zurich. In 1977 he took up a position at Eawag , where he worked until 2006. Since 2000 it has been listed in the database of Highly Cited Researchers of the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI), and in 2001 it received the SETAC Environmental Education Award. In 2006 he received the American Chemical Society's “Award for Creative Advances in Environmental Science & Technology” . In July 2013, the journal Environmental Science & Technology devoted a special issue to him.
