René Wirths (* 1967 in Waldbröl ) is a German painter .

biography

René Wirths has lived in Berlin since 1970. From 1992 to 1998 Wirths studied fine arts at the Hochschule der Künste (HDK) and was a master class student with Wolfgang Petrick . Exhibitions by René Wirths were a. a. seen in Berlin, Zurich, Paris, Prague, Krems and Rotterdam. The focus of his work is working with oil on canvas .

style

Wirth's works show realistically painted motifs, for example a football, a motorcycle or a zucchini, which are shown larger than life against a neutral white background. His analytically observing gaze applies to the thing in itself and leads him to the phenomenology of the image and painting. He refuses to use photos or projectors, but takes the objects with him to his studio. The objects, which are painted down to the smallest detail, develop their own pseudo-reality due to their larger than life size and the isolated representation against the often white background. Also through the strict frontal or profile view, this view appears unemotional, documentary, apparently objective. However, when comparing the real object directly with the painted picture, differences become apparent. Wirths' pictures alternate between the objectivity of the things depicted and the subjectivity of the artist's or viewer's perception.
