Rena Chatzidaki

Rena Chatzidaki ( Greek Ρένα Χατζηδάκη , * 1943 in Athens ; † August 13, 2003 near the island of Kea ) was a Greek poet .

Life

Rena Chatzidaki worked as a poet, translator and psychotherapist. She was the daughter of the famous writer and journalist Lili Zografou (1922–1998). Rena Chatzidaki said of himself: “I was a political prisoner from birth, I mean: the Gestapo. It was already in the womb of my mother who was held hostage by the Germans in the prison of Aia, near Chania. ”Chatzidaki's father was imprisoned in Mauthausen during the Second World War. Rena Chatzidaki was considered one of the authors from Greece who led a very quiet and extremely withdrawn life. At the age of 25 she wrote in captivity in 1968, during the military dictatorship, under the pseudonym "Marina" in the Bouboulinas prison in Athens for the security police, the poem Under Siege , which was set to music by Mikis Theodorakis . It was not until 1991, 24 years later, that she revealed herself to be the author of this work. In August 2003, Rena Chatzidaki drowned near the island of Kea .
