Renata Polverini (born May 14, 1962 in Rome ) is an Italian politician ( Forza Italia (FI)) and a member of the Italian Chamber of Deputies .

Life

Before starting her political career, Polverini was active as a trade unionist and, among other things, General Secretary of the Unione Generale del Lavoro . In March 2010 she was elected President of the Lazio Region to succeed Piero Marrazzo . She had run for a list association of several right-wing groups, which also included parts of Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's ruling party PdL . Their government promise was to significantly reduce regional government spending; instead, however, these continued to rise over the course of their term of office.

On September 24, 2012, Renata Polverini resigned as President of the Region. In doing so, she drew the consequences of a corruption scandal in which several members of the PdL regional faction were involved. Among other things, Franco Fiorito , parliamentary group leader of the party in the regional council, is said to have misused funds due to the parliamentary group for personal purposes. With her resignation, Polverini assumed political responsibility, but saw herself without guilt. However, she remained provisionally in office until the new elections on February 24 and 25, 2013. In the parliamentary elections taking place at the same time , Polverini ran for the Chamber of Deputies on a safe list of the PdL . She has been a member of the Forza Italia (FI) group since March 19, 2013 .
