Renate Weber (born August 3, 1955 in Botoșani ) is a Romanian politician .

Weber has been a member of the Liberal Party of Romania ( Partidul Național Liberal ) since 2007 . In the same year she became a member of the European Parliament .

Life

In 1979 Renate Weber successfully completed her law degree at the University of Bucharest and has been working as a lawyer ever since. In 1994 she received a visiting scholarship from Columbia University in New York .

Weber has been a lecturer since 1997, from 1997 to 2003 at the National School for Political and Administrative Studies. She also lectures at the Faculty of History at the University of Bucharest.

Weber was the chairwoman of the Soros Foundation from 1998 to 2007 and is the director of the Center for Legal Resources. In addition, she is active in various human rights organizations.

As an author, she has published over 50 studies and articles to date.

Politically, Renate Weber initially worked as an advisor to the Romanian President on constitutional and legislative issues from December 2004 to December 2005.

She has been a member of the European Parliament since 2007. She was head of three election observation delegations of the European Parliament: Ecuador (2008, 2009) and Bolivia (2009).

From 2009 to 2014 Weber is a member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs , the Special Committee against Organized Crime, Corruption and Money Laundering, the Delegation for relations with the countries of the Andean Community and the Delegation to the European Parliamentary Assembly.
