Renato P. Arlati (born March 29, 1936 in Zurich ; † March 31, 2005 in Baden , Switzerland ) was a Swiss writer .

life and work

Arlati made his debut in 1977 with And I feel a twist with short prose and stories when I get up in the grass . The little noticed work was followed in 1980 "On the journey to Rome", 1981 The vault of the night is strange and repellent , manuscript prize, Graz and 1985 The house and the bells that ring (Suhrkamp). His novel Der Vormund , 1965, was published by Franz Böni under the title Des Mündels-Tag und Nachtgeschichte 1985 by Suhrkamp. His volume of poems In dunkler Verneigung, 1965 - 1982 , was never published. In the 1970s he had a romance with the writer Brigitte Meng , which resulted in a lot of prose. For his second novel he received the Guest Prize Bern and the Grand Prize of the Schiller Foundation. After Robert Walser and Ludwig Hohl, he is one of the most mysterious and best poets in Switzerland. He lived in attic below the subsistence level for 30 years. His estate is in the City Archives, Zurich.
