Rencontres de Moriond

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rencontres de Moriond (“Encounters of Moriond”) are an annual conference of physicists in March, particularly from the fields of particle physics , high energy physics and cosmology .

history

The meeting took place for the first time in January 1966 in the French ski resort of Courchevel -Moriond on the initiative of the French- Vietnamese physicist Jean Tran Thanh Van (* 1936).

A special feature is that all participants are accommodated together in a hotel; there is also the opportunity to ski between the lecture sessions. The Rencontres de Moriond established themselves in the physicists' community in the following years and served as a model for other, similar meetings and conferences.

Since 2004 the conference has been taking place in La Thuile in the Italian Aosta Valley . Before that, the participants met for many years in Les Arcs in the French Alps .
