Reviews

"Christoph Schaub's documentary is about projections: ideas and thoughts that the zoo directors project onto the zoo visitors and these in turn onto the animals."

- Tages Anzeiger , March 17, 1995

“A surprisingly light-handed work that knew how to lead its subject wisely and without any serious reflection ballast in the distance and also in depth. On the one hand, the film attempts a short cultural history of the zoological garden and, on the other hand, recognizes in this institution one of the essential interfaces in the relationship between humans and animals. And he by no means withholds the grief that grips us when we give an account of what we do in our fascination with all efforts for his well-being, the animal, its beauty and strength. "

- Christoph Egger - NZZ , January 26, 1995

“Curiosity is the central theme in Schaub's film - also in its inversion. (...) The frame retained by the camera, the limited view through the car or train funnel at the passing animals thematize the eyes of the filmmaker, referring explicitly and repeatedly to the cinematic frame. And thus closes the arc with the reference to another curiosity: the cinephile in the cinema. "

- Doris Senn - Cinema 41 Blickführung , 1995

"Smart, professional and exciting."

- Christoph Heim - Basler Zeitung
